Great little hole in the wall spot for soul/southern food. Cafeteria-style place. What you see is what they've got left for the day. Popular items will sell out daily...if its getting after dinner time, they won't make a new batch. Lots of food for the price. Limited seating inside. I'm strictly carry out here...I make a mess of things when I dig into food like this. Cash only...but for me...it adds to the charm. The greens are great. Lots of so-called bbq joints make greens. Mookey's makes them how they are supposed to taste. Nilla wafer Banana Pudding is just grandma used to make... The Chicken is fall off the bone, the smothered chops are moist and just peppery enough...next time I'm trying the rib tips Two doors down from the Bread Basket Deli... sites.google.com/site/mo…

Went here on a whim. 1st thing I noticed is that I stuck to the floor....everytime I moved in there. Not sure why the floor was sticky, as this is not a dine-in establishment. You get a lot of food for the money. I had the catfish w/Mac&Chez and mashed potatoes. The catfish and mac/cheese were ok. The gravy from the potatoes tasted scorched. My mom had the fried pork chops which she really liked. I would go again to try something else on the menu.....I just wished they would bring it to the door so I wouldn't have to chance getting stuck to the floor.

I spent $10.00 on food I could not eat. The fish was hard and bland...ok I'm being nice...the truth is it was Nasty...the mac & cheese was greasy...this usually happens when an inferior cheese product is used...the white beans tasted like the metal tray they were sitting in...and when I took the cornbread out of the wrapper it crumbled into a million pieces...so I mixed it in with the white beans and to my suprise the beans tasted a lot better (I saw my grandfather do that),,,this was my first and last time eating the food there...a friend recommended it...obviously her expectation of soul food is much lower than mine...Unfortunatly I didn't find out how bad the food was until I got home because it was a carry out and was no where near where I live. Don't say you weren't warned!!!

I knew this place was going to be awesome as soon as I walked in. And I was right. For a little over $12 I got 2 smothered pork chops, greens, mac and cheese, beans and rice, peach cobbler, and a Vernor's. This will be my only meal of the day.

Their smothered porkchops were nothing short of "gat-damn, this mess is good as hey-yell!!". The beans and rice were divine, and the mac and cheese was quite pleasing. Full-blown soulfood. The following week, I got chitterlings. I know--pig's intestine , Nykol? But this was some damn good shit. Pardon the gross pun--actually, these chitterlings were very clean, which is why I tried them (only the second time I've ever eaten them). These chitlins were tender, and well balanced with seasoning and pork flavor. I ordered a lb., which was more than enough. The staff is friendly, helpful and engage with their customers. The owners seem to operate on Christian ideology ; religion is not my cup of tea. However, I can overlook the gospel music long enough to get an order of chicken wings. Hurry up about it please. I may not believe that souls exist, but I definitely believe in eating good soul food.

Food is good but has gotten progressive more overpriced while providing less food than when they were less popular. Thus I dont go here as much as a couple years back. Nice lunch combos and tasty sides. I get baked chicken or rib tips. Didnt appreciate them going all legalese about taking a photo. I told them it was for Yelp. No need for some faux competitor fears. I know thats what it was. Note to the owner: Get w the times and know what Yelp and Yelpers are.

I have to admit I was a little skeptical when I first walked in. My doubt was quickly eased by the other patrons/regulars, who proceeded to order their food one by one. At this point, I'm like okay.. I'm not the only one, so the food has to be decent. I ordered the catfish dinner, which is made to order. The meal came with two sides and cornbread. I choose the Mac and Cheese (not bad) and the cabbage (very good). The fish was absolutely delicious! It was crispy, nicely seasoned and hot! My meal by far exceeded my expectations! I will be back! This will definitely be my new go to carry out spot!

I'm sort of a regular at mookeys, my mother likes their food so I go a couple times a month to get her mookeys. The food is good for mass prepared food. Never as good as my dad's but better then many places I've been too. Good portions, good prices, good enough food.

I tried Mookey's Beans & Greens because of a deal voucher, but came back because I actually enjoyed the food. It is nestled in the plaza where Kmart and Bread Basket are located. You would surely not know that is was there unless you were just walking ass or word of month. Make sure you come with greenbacks or you will be disappointed as they are Cash only. The food set up is cafeteria style and you tell them what you want as you go. All menu items are not offered everyday, but you can call ahead for the day's available food selection. Call ahead if you are going to get lunch as they stay super busy and it is a small area. Who knew they would be 10 people in line to eat at noon??? Lunch specials under $7 and they have good rib tips. One lady came in upset because they didn't have them, paid for them and said she would be back 1 hour later when they were done cooking. I was in awe as there must have been something in the sauce to make a return trip for a meal. Overall, I liked this off the radar spot. Look for the steamed up windows and you are in the right spot.

Mooky"s beans and cornbread serves great soul food. The chicken and dumplings are very good. I'm not too fond of the peach cobbler. ...the crust seems to be made out of filo (sp)? dough. That's the kind of dough used to make spinach pie.

So let me just say this first, the name is a real turn off! Okay, now that I've said that, down to the food. So I checked this joint out for a lunch special. I ordered the rib tips, mac n cheese, and greens. It was $5.99. I go to pick up my food and the greens weren't ready or some excuse they told me, I forgot :( So I ordered green beans instead. I know this food isn't the best to eat on the daily, so I always try to order a vegetable to make me feel better :) So I had rib tips, mac n cheese, and green beans. The ribs were ok. The sauce I didn't care for because the base is Open Pit BBQ sauce and I don't like that. The mac n cheese is good. I liked it! The green beans were ok, nothing memorable in my opinion. My food was hot, though I had to rush to eat it. I only have a 30 minute lunch and used most of that time to get there and back. I've been here maybe one time after and ordered yams as my side and they were good. I was happy. I also got a piece of the lemon pound cake with butter cream frosting and nuts. That was delicious! The food is set out buffet style behind the glass so you get to see everything. The next time I go, and yes there will be a next time, I will order the turkey wings because they look oh so good!

The best soul food restaurant around!! I love this place. The smothered liver & onions with a side of rice delicious, chitterlings are CLEAN and seasoned to perfection, love the white beans, green beans and the greens...all the food is delicious. Portions are enough for two days. Staff is always friendly and very respectful.
